Meet Christina

I’m Christina Johnson a kind, caring and experienced Human Givens psychotherapist and counsellor. My own pregnancy, birth and postpartum were impacted by trauma and I lived with the impact of this on my own mental health for many years.

Searching for healing from this led me to the Rewind technique (offered by Human Givens therapists), which quickly and effectively lifts symptoms of trauma and so my journey began to becoming fully trained in the Human Givens approach to supporting mental health and wellbeing.

It is my mission to bring this transformative approach into the field of Maternal Mental Health thereby strengthening our capacity as parents to nurture ourselves and in turn our babies, children, families and communities.

What is the Human Givens approach?

The Human Givens approach combines the most effective forms of counselling and psychotherapy, drawing on the best of Cognitive Behavioural Approaches (CBT), and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), person centered counselling, trauma focused and solution focused therapeutic approaches.

Human Givens Therapy is based on a sound body of scientifically based knowledge and the proven skills to help people overcome a wide range of emotional and behavioural difficulties.

  • Resolve trauma – birth trauma, miscarriage and loss, medical procedures, c sections, stays in nicus, bystander trauma
  • Master anxiety – in pregnancy, and postnatal period, OCD, phobias and intrusive thoughts, tokophobia (a fear of giving birth), fear of pregnancy or becoming a parent
  • Break the cycle of depression– both in pregnancy or in the postnatal period
  • Manage anger – around birth trauma, or birth injury, failures of the system, at the loss of our previous life or with our partner or families
  • Stop addictive behaviour – in preparation for conception, pregnancy or birth or as a result of dealing with difficulties or responsibilities as a new parent
  • Relieve medical conditions and manage pain – before or after birth, support with pregnancy sickness, hyperemesis, pelvic or back pain
  • Help to improve relationships – support on the journey through pregnancy, birth and postpartum involves a huge transition in our life and those closest to us
  • Growing confidence – managing the transitions in ourselves, our partnerships, families and in our working lives. Support with returning to work and finding our new identity
